  1. Just wanna say that Doc Martin is the most creative show I’ve ever seen. You never know what’s going to happen one minute to the next. It was very thought out and living here in the US I only wish we had shows this good. All we have is junk. Nothing creative about them. I usually don’t like watching something more then once but this show, watching each episode or show multiple times is just as good as the first. I’ve never seen a show that went through so many degrees within a one hour show. They is just not enough good things to say about this show. Please produce more series of it.

  2. Hi Dominic

my family absolutely adore Doc Martin – i sit with my 3 kids and even hubby occasionally to watch re runs over and over.

There is just something about the show that we love – the scenery gives me goose bumps and i hope that one day before i die, i will get to Port Isaac to sit and take it all in for myself – what a gem of a place

we love all the characters – they just make us smile – its a feel good show

i read that the 5th series is being made this year – can you confirm or deny this please

my mum is also a huge fan – we sit and talk about the episodes when we get together at my kids footy games!!

i have all the dvds and often pull them out if i am feeling down – the show is simply the perfect remedy/pick me up when you are feeling sad.

we are huge fans of Martin Clunes – he’s so loveable – we have loved him since the days of Men Behaving Badly

thanks for bringing huge smiles to our faces Dominic

    your fans forever

    Tania

  3. Yes it has been filming this year. Glad you are enjoying it, but the Doc is not supposed to be loveable!

(Oh all right then, he is really.)

  4. Just discovered Doc Martin This week. I spent the entire weekend watching all four seasons. Absolutely terrific (funny, maddening, suspenseful, frustrating — wonderful!) show. Any more to come or is the birth of the baby the end for us?

  5. It’s a wnuedrfol series!! I got hooked last year when I had the flu! They are currently filming season five now in Port Issac ( Port Wen )

  6. The series Doc Martin has captured the essence of psycho-neurosis. The entire village is as quirky as the good Doc himself. And what makes this a comedy and not a tragedy is that the entire village thinks that the Doc is out of step, rude and generally uncivilized…Yet…

Then there is Louisa (love interest more or less) who might benefit from as much time on the couch as Martin.

It is easy to find some little or more than little part of ourselves in each of the characters just sufficient to make us laugh and sometimes cry with them.

On so many levels Doc Martin excels: the cast is cast to perfection, the storyline is solid and well-written, the medical parts are articulated accurately and the scenery thank God for that little corner of perfection.

The world in now a world turned upside down. We need Portwenn and its quirky, all too human characters to distract us from the everyday concerns.

    Thanks from across the pond,

Please continue, and continue and continue…

  7. Thanks Cecelia! It’s responses like these that make me want to get up earlier and work harder to make more television. I left Doc Martin Season 3 onwards in the hands of others, so I can’t ‘continue and continue and continue’ but there’s another season in the works, so you haven’t seen the last of Portwenn just yet.

  8. Sorry you exited the series.

As the series progresses it will become more difficult to keep the characters fresh and interesting. The pattern of crisis and response that appears to drive the action while it does educate people about how to respond or avoid responding to certain medical emergencies this could grow tiresome if the emergency is handled and solved within the particular series. I say this not as a criticism but as a suggestion that the audience is capable of growth: we can learn to postpone gratification or the desire for a solution, for a short time. Perhaps, an episode could continue next week giving the audience a chance to ponder the possibilities; to think how they would react under such circumstances.

The value of the Doc Martin series can be seen on many levels:

    1) The acceptance of the quirks of each inhabitant of Portwenn demonstrates, as Bert Large suggest, “We don’t have to love our Doc and he doesn’t have to love us to be our Doc” or words to that effect.

    2) From a psychoanalytic point of view “love” and “hate” can co-exist. This is demonstrated by the Portwenn citizenry even though many are having some difficulty realizing it. Martin and Louisa through trial and error may learn a few valuable lessons: a) that which happened when they were young does not have to be repeated now. b) that the other person may be suffering from their childhood as well, c) that there are more than two choices: fight or flight. The well-adjusted individual can negotiate: a compromise position is available.

Psychoanalysis, either Classical Freudian or Modern, at this point is not advisable. Nor do I think psychological counseling would benefit either mainly because there defenses are build so high and so secure that the very inference that one or the other or both of them could benefit from such treatment would build a stronger, more entrenched wall around their castle (psyche): the bridge is up, the portcullis is up and the guards are on the ramparts. What may work is Aunt Ruth’s gentle statements now and then which might pass the conscious into the unconscious. The best treatment would be for both to begin a quiet conservation: just a few words. They can begin their own self-analysis just like Freud did.

There are so many possibilities for the slow development of the characters without destroying what makes these characters who they are.

I am in the midst of, believe it our not, a psychoanalytic study of the good Doc Martin. Why? Because the character interests me and has stirred the pot: I am back to my studies. Thank you for inspiring me to analyze my own work.

Please see if there is a way in which you and Doc Martin might come together. The series will need your help. I recognize they have good writers, et cetera. There is no doubt of this but…

  9. Please excuse all errors in the above missive, my proof-reader has entered the Twilight Zone and cannot be reached. Just before the men in the white jackets showed up, he managed to hide the O.E.D, spell-checker and grammar aid. This is a capital offense punishable by watching any sit-com on American TV with the except on Doc Martin. If you don’t believe this is sufficient punishment, try watching one of those programs.

If you have the opportunity, would you please ask those in charge to update their web-page. I believe that many here would like to add comments but when the see how old the comments appearing on the page they skip it. Thank you.

    Respectfully,

    Cecelia
